The striped shirt makes summer dressing a breeze — That’s Not My Age

Shirts are out (not literally, this one is tucked in). As soon as summer hits, I reach for a cotton button-down shirt. Cool, airy and super chic. The on-and-off properties of a striped cotton poplin shirt are second to none. This chic wardrobe staple looks great with skirts, even better with an old, faded pair of jeans, and is the go-to item for vacations and multi-tasking (perfect for throwing on after the beach). A staple of French fashion editors and movie stars, shirt-wearing extraordinaire Tilda Swinton recently wore a striped version (tailored suit and surreal shoes) to a fashion event. private view In London, it’s time to join the Shirt Action campaign.

And stripes in summer, who doesn’t like them? I’m a fan of blue and white, but last year I switched to pink. This shirt is from True to the brand (no longer available in pink), for something similar try Whistles, Rails, With nothing underneathand Frank and Eileen. Notice the delicious combination of bubblegum pink and a beautiful deep brown color.

Whether you’re sightseeing, visiting a gallery, or running around town, the Oversized Striped Shirt makes dressing for summer a breeze.

The cotton skirt is from a sustainable brand based in East London called ElwinA mutual friend introduced me to the founder Deanne (and she lent me… Skirt Deanne, who has been working in luxury fashion and marketing for over 20 years, has set up her own small business. Her aim is to create understated, versatile clothing in a circular way that doesn’t harm the planet. Elwin’s garments are made in small batches and the range – of knitwear, jackets and separates – is described as “continuous and evolving”. Rather than being replaced each season with a bunch of other garments, the collection is designed to last from year to year and beyond. “For me, clothes have an emotional resonance,” says Deanne. “I have things that I’ve had for many years – decades even – and I wear them over and over again.”

And don’t forget my broken stripe, Stitch Shirt in collaboration with Sarah O’Keefe (available on TNMA Edit). More summer stripes here:
