Let’s Talk About the Ending of Furiosa

What a beautiful, beautiful day! After years of anticipation and discussionGeorge Miller’s sequel to Mad Max: Fury Road It’s finally here. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga it’s already in theaters and acts as a perfect complement to that 2015 masterpiece, giving Furiosa’s character an intense backstory while also building up the world of Wasteland.

And while there is nothing wildly Surprising in the movie, especially since we know what happens immediately afterward, we really love the ending and thought you might want to dive into it a little after watching the movie. Major spoilers follow.

All furious leads to the character (Anya Taylor-Joy) finally coming face to face with Dementus (Chris Hemsworth), the maniacal warlord primarily responsible for ruining her life by kidnapping her and killing her mother. The showdown occurs, Furiosa emerges victorious, but then we see multiple versions of the exact conclusion. It’s Miller’s nod to legend and storytelling. A recognition that what is real and what is told are not always the same, especially in mythology.

The fascinating thing here is that the legends of how Furiosa defeated Dementus are much less exciting than the truth. What Furiosa actually did to Dementus wasn’t simple or straightforward. She was brutal. In fact, it was epic and she proves that the legend of her is only a fraction of the reality of her. It is a mythical creature but in real life it is even better.

So what happens? Well, throughout the movie, we see that Furiosa carries a seed with her. It is a seed that her mother gave him as a reminder of her home. It is her most prized possession because not only does it belong to her home, it also represents the possibility of renewal.

The seed has no bearing on the final fight, but becomes crucial immediately afterwards. Instead of simply killing Dementus, we see that Furiosa somehow discovers a way to use her body as soil to give life to the seed. He becomes part of her roots, trapped forever in agony, as the seed slowly sucks the life out of her and transforms into a beautiful fruit tree. Basically, Dementus becomes the basis for Furiosa’s rebirth. It’s an inexplicable, but brutal and fascinating, fate for Hemsworth’s character. A mature (pun intended) one with meaning.

Furiosa then takes a piece of fruit, takes it to Immortal Joe’s wives, and takes them to a War Rig where, in Mad Max: Fury Road We will see them try to escape. The movie continues to the next movie. Then in the end credits it even shows a little path of fury highlight reel just as a reminder.

So furious ends with the character becoming a legend of the Wasteland and connecting perfectly to the next film. In terms of endings, it doesn’t get any better than that.
