Hello friends! It’s Christmas again, which means adding all that charming cottage decor to our homes to celebrate the seasons. This year is doubly exciting as we recently finished remodeling our kitchen. I’ve been anticipating it since August of last year when we started the remodel by painting the cabinets.
We now have a cool English cottage style kitchen as the backdrop for our vintage Christmas kitchen decor!
The biggest change this year (besides the remodel) is adding a soft blue to our existing Christmas decor. I started looking for inspiration images on Pinterest before last Christmas, so I had a year to think about how to add this beautiful color and gather supplies and decorations. At first, I wondered if blue would create a patriotic vibe with the traditional red we already have, but after seeing how other people used blue on wrapping paper, greenery, and on their Christmas trees, it didn’t look out of place. place.
Two things helped the blue blend beautifully. First, I was more drawn to deep reds and soft blues than bright primary colors. By using muted shades of blue and red, they appeared more sophisticated. Secondly, I saw that when blue was added to Christmas decor, it was used consistently throughout. This color repetition assures the eye that the color belongs. I found this design principle works throughout our kitchen remodel.
I started with an elegant medium muted blue velvet ribbon from Hobby Lobby. I tied simple bows and added them to ornaments, a wreath, a chandelier, the mantel, and our tree. These blue bows were a quick and easy way to add color to many areas of the home.
In addition to the ribbon, I used vintage and vintage accents in our kitchen to add that beautiful blue color. You may not think of blue and white china as a Christmas décor item, but thinking outside the box is a hallmark of English cottage design. Don’t limit yourself to the typical Christmas decoration when dressing your home.
This antique teapot is a recent find on eBay and is almost 200 years old. If only this teapot could talk! I wonder where it has been and who owned it…
I love the intricate images, the soft blue, and the octagon shape. The ironstone creamer and sugar was recently spotted at the thrift store and complements the shape of the teapot well.
This centerpiece idea came from Marian Parsons’ blog Miss Mustard Seed, where she created something similar using a cake stand and an antique ironstone bowl. This is my interpretation of that same idea, and I love it! The milk glass cake stand was secondhand, the vintage transferware fruit bowl was found online, and the candle and greenery selections came from Hobby Lobby.
To continue the red in our kitchen’s vintage Christmas decor, I included this beloved sugar bowl, a gift from my sister a few years ago. Can you tell I love transferware?
Home Tour with Vintage Christmas Kitchen Decor
The plate rack that surrounds the top of the kitchen cabinets is always a highlight when decorating dinnerware. Here you see red transferware plates that I have saved up, that sweet viewers gave me on our YouTube channel, or that I found online. These add the perfect vintage and festive touch to a cottage kitchen!
I love how the blue has combined so well with the traditional red we already had for Christmas decorations!
