This And That (Paint Chip Cabinet Color List, Baseboard Question Answered, and Products Page In Progress)

Well y’all, it happened again. Yesterday morning I woke up with sciatica pain. I was very frustrated and just wanted to cry, not because of the pain, but because of the fear of having to relive the 10 most painful days of my life.

Fortunately, the pain is nothing like what it was before and seems to have gotten a little better this morning. Unfortunately, yesterday was so bad that it prevented me from working in the studio. And that was incredibly disappointing because my schedule was a little different this week with things rearranged and regular weekly cancellations, so I had the potential to have four full, uninterrupted work days in a row. I can’t even remember the last time I had that! But now one of them has burned out and is questionable today. I’m so frustrated. (But to be clear, I’m not looking for medical advice either. 🙂 There was plenty of advice in previous posts on this topic that I can refer to.)

So while I relax again for a couple of days, I thought I’d catch up on some requests and answer one of the “most frequently asked” questions about my latest project.

First, the paint sample cabinet. I made a decision about the cabinet door handles. I came up with an idea that several of you suggested: cheap wooden knobs painted to match the colors they sit on. I worked this Monday afternoon and posted an update on Monday’s post, but in case you missed it, here’s another look.

I think it’s the absolute PERFECT solution! I’m so glad some of you suggested this. These knobs were incredibly inexpensive, and although it took about four coats of paint to get them right (and that took a lot longer than I thought 😀), the end result was worth it.

And I love that they are clearly visible in person (although they disappear in the pictures), so it’s obvious they are cabinet doors, but the handles don’t demand attention. You can see what they all look like below. In person, they are subtle and yet hard to miss. In one photo, a couple of them are hard to see.

Several people asked me about baseboards and if I would need to move the wall cabinet to add baseboards behind it. The answer is no. I’m not moving this cabinet away from the wall.

I said I wanted it to look like a freestanding cabinet, and a freestanding cabinet would naturally have baseboards behind it. But after fully assembling this cabinet and realizing how tall it was going to be, I quickly realized that it needed to be leaning against the wall and it also needed to be secured to the wall (which I have yet to do). ).

The cabinet is so tall and thin that I would always worry about it tipping over. There’s probably a zero percent chance of that ever happening. I’ve pulled and pulled it to see if it comes away easily from the wall at the top, or if it feels top heavy, and it doesn’t at all. But I’d rather be safe than sorry. So it will continue to be flush with the wall and I’ll just put baseboards around it on either side instead of behind it. So in the end, it is a built-in cabinet and not a freestanding cabinet. And I’m fine with that. Safety is a higher priority.

And now let’s move on to the paint colors. A few people asked me for the paint colors, and since I’ve already done the work of arranging these colors into a gradient, I’m happy to pass it on so that those of you who want to do this project (or a similar project with these colors) don’t need to start from zero.

I ended up designing my color gradient diagonally. You can see how I arranged my colors in the image below.

To avoid clogging up this post with a huge list of 72 different paint colors that many people don’t want, need, or care about, I put the list on a separate page. You can click here to find the list of 72 paint colors I used on my cabinet. All of these color names are Behr paint colors from Home Depot. In the list of paint color names, the ones I mixed myself are indicated with an asterisk. So while I used the Behr paint color name on my label, the actual paint color may not be a perfect match. But the ones I mixed are pretty close to the real colors!

And finally, I have people ask me quite regularly about the products and tools I use. I’ve written previous posts about certain categories, like my favorite paint products, but I was asked for a full page of products I use and suggest for my DIY projects, expanding beyond just painting products.

I think it’s a great idea! I’ll also include my “can’t live without them” tools so you don’t have to search for them either. So to help me make that list as complete as possible, I’d love to know if you have any questions about products or tools I’ve used for specific projects. I’ll try to include everything I can think of, but your suggestions/questions may help me remember things I would forget too much.

Well, I hope I can work a little today. By Tuesday night she had cleaned everything in the back entrance of the studio and had all the walls ready for painting (which mainly required a lot of dusting).

My plan was to paint the back entrance yesterday, but I woke up yesterday in too much pain to do any work. I’d love to paint those walls today, but only time will tell if I’ll be able to get any work done.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
